I bought my US spec.1971 SWB r75/5 in 2011. I had heard it was for sale through a contact in the local VMCC branch. I then obtained the factory records for the bike which showed that it left Berlin as a European specification machine and was delivered to Butler and Smith in New York. I have since spoken to a couple of people who knew the bike subsequently and it appears that the first owner in New York was in the US AirForce and was due to be posted to the UK. However he couldn't register the bike in the States without it being converted to US specification. After serving his time at RAFAlconbury he sold the bike to its next owner and it was a subsequent owner after that who carried out a full restoration to it's present standard. Following that it was owned by an elderly gentleman who eventually found the bike was too much for him, which was ironic because he was a retired RAFSquadron Leader who use to fly Vulcan bombers!
